about

My first solo album, Third World Wide, works backwards from the present. Volume 1 showcases a new school hip-hop sound (as always, remixed with Arab rhythms and instrumentals) and lyrics that reflect on my life as a Syrian immigrant in the United States and past experiences I have only begun to process in these relatively stable times. Produced by Haquin (Edinburgh, Scotland), Third World Wide Vol. 1 will take you on an emotional, sometimes danceable, and always global journey.

"It is as far culturally from Maine as you can imagine. Yet it is so easy to see it settle into the spectrum of local hip-hop and electronic music ... And it’s fresh as hell." - Sam Pfeifle, Portland Phoenix

about

Assasi Aleppo, Syria

Assasi dons the red tarboush (fez) and carefully arranges a scarf on his left shoulder before each performance. Every audience enjoys this sight, regardless of venue or country. He seems trapped between the past - a golden era of Arab music and culture - and the utopian future - a society free of today’s hang-ups and conflicts, in which individuals and their unique gifts flourish in safety. ... more
